- If the record names MDOC, federal, immigration, or another county custody, continue with that receiving agency.

Release terms need care. Bond means the person left jail while the case may remain open. Time served reflects credited confinement or sentence completion, but the judgment explains why. The county provides a FOIA policy and request route, including its online portal and forms. Ask for an existing record rather than asking staff to create a new same-day list. St. Joseph Same-Day Release Timing
A 24-hour question needs a fixed start and end time. “Today” can mean the calendar day, the prior 24 hours counted from the call, or the period since the last check. State the exact range when calling or writing. Also give the approximate booking date. That keeps staff from matching a recent question to an older booking involving the same person. The release timestamp, not a court filing time or a VINE alert time, is the field that places the jail exit inside the chosen window.
Several records may update at different points. A judge can enter a bond or release order before jail staff complete release processing. A VINE notice can follow the source agency’s status update. A court register may show the legal act without the physical departure time. None of those differences proves an error by itself. Compare the exact labels and ask the Sheriff for the operational release record when the hour matters.
The same caution applies to late-night events. A release just before midnight and one just after midnight fall on different calendar dates, even though both are within a rolling 24-hour span. Ask for the full date and time rather than a date alone. If the record says transfer, record the receiving agency and continue there. A transfer timestamp only marks when county control ended.

MI-VINE is a separate official notification route.
